As of mid-August, about 41% of the worldwide inventory of 213 non-multiplex GS screens have reopened following extended closures caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Some 30 other institutions have opened their facilities but not yet reopened their GS theaters.

Fifty Years Ago: The First IMAX Film and Theater

Fifty years ago, Expo 70 in Osaka, Japan, hosted the world’s first IMAX film and theater in the fair’s Fuji Pavilion. Imax Corporation co-founders Graeme Ferguson, Bill Kerr, Roman Kroitor, and Bill Shaw, developed the camera and projector technology, made the first film, and in the process invented the giant screen industry.
